This module imparts the physical principles required to understand Forces, motion, energy, flow and heat are necessary in aerospace engineering. It forms the basis for correctly classifying technical relationships in systems and assemblies.
Contents
- Matter: elements, atoms/molecules, compounds; states of aggregation and phase transitions
- Mechanics: Statics (forces/moments, center of gravity, stress/strain/elasticity, pressure/buoyancy); Kinetics (linear/rotating, oscillations/resonance); Dynamics (work/power/energy, momentum, gyroscopic principle, friction); Fluid dynamics (density, viscosity, compressibility, Bernoulli/Venturi)
- Thermodynamics: temperature/scales, heat, heat capacity, heat transfer, 1st/2nd law of thermodynamics, ideal gas laws, isothermal/adiabatic, cyclic processes
- Optics and Waves & Sound (incl. Doppler effect)
