EWIS

The training EWIS (Electrical Wiring Interconnection System) provides a comprehensive understanding of electrical wiring interconnection systems and their importance for aircraft safety, functionality, and reliability. With AMC 20-22, EASA mandates proven initial and recurrent training on this subject. This affects all personnel (PART 145, 21, M) with varying content and levels.

Some of the essential contents are:

Basics of EWIS
The training begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of electrical wiring systems, including the various components, cable types, connectors, and connections. Participants learn how these systems are integrated into the aircraft and how they work together to transmit and distribute electrical power.

Security aspects
Since electrical systems in aircraft pose a potential fire hazard, an emphasis is placed on safety aspects. The training covers the necessary protective measures, insulation and shielding techniques, as well as the identification of potential hazards.

Regulatory requirements
The training explains the relevant regulatory requirements and standards that apply to electrical wiring systems in aviation. This includes both international standards and national regulations to ensure that participants are familiar with the legal frameworks.

System architecture
The training provides an understanding of the structure and architecture of EWIS in various aircraft types. This includes identifying main circuits, subsystems, connections, and controls to obtain a comprehensive picture of how the wiring is arranged in the aircraft.

Maintenance and inspection
Participants will learn the best practices for the maintenance, inspection, and servicing of EWIS. This includes the identification of wear, corrosion, and other issues that could impair the performance of the wiring systems.

Troubleshooting and diagnosis
The training covers troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques for problems in EWIS. Participants will learn how to identify, isolate, and resolve electrical issues to minimize downtime and ensure safety.

Practical exercises and simulations
Often the training includes practical exercises where participants work on realistic scenarios to apply their knowledge and skills. This can include the use of simulators or real aircraft components.

The training EWIS ensures that professionals have the necessary knowledge and practical skills to safely maintain, repair, and monitor electrical wiring systems. This contributes significantly to the safety, efficiency, and reliability of air transport.
